Background: TV TropesHe's the second listed character
In the year 200X Dr. Light set out to make the first humanoid robot that was capable of independent thought and behavior. This was done with help from his lab assistant, Dr. Wily. This prototype was dubbed Blues, and Dr. Light made Blues with several purposes, including to be his son, to create a bridge between humanity and the future of robotics, and to be a source of hope and protection for humanity as technology continued to advance. A robotic savior for humanity. For a time Blues was active and the pinnacle of robotics research from the foremost roboticist in the world. He had a place, a family, and was loved. This was until a critical flaw was discovered in his core, his heart. The cutting-edge solar-powered core was deemed not able to sustain Blues without further damage, and Blues was informed that he was being temporarily shut down while the problem was addressed.
It is unknown why this promise of Dr. Light to his first son was broken. But at some point after being powered down and having his core removed, Blues was discarded by Light for a long period of time. In this time a new robot was made to fulfill the same role, dubbed Rock by Dr. Light. But Dr. Light and Wily had a falling out before this, and Wily came to the conclusion that robots were oppressed and needed liberated through violent revolution. This led to a number of conflicts between Wily and the world, with the retrofitted Rock, redubbed Mega Man, to fight the way. After his second defeat Wily also set out to find an answer of Mega Man coming in to stop his efforts. It was then he discovered the discarded Blues, his body at this point broken down and much of him rusted to red. Wily developed a new, nuclear-powered core for Blues, and gave him an arm-canon to replace a damaged arm. He dubbed the restored and upgraded robot 'Break Man'.
Upon his awakening Blues found himself long abandoned by his father, and very little research indicated that he had been replaced by someone built to resemble him. He had been thoroughly replaced by his father in all matters, betrayed and his metaphorical heart broken. Enraged, Break Man swore vengeance, starting by taking down his brother. In time he decided the better answer was to convince Mega Man to the robot rebellion, fighting his brother a number of times in the process of trying to convince him, even noting that killing his own kind would never make Mega truly human. This stance continued even after Gamma came to the conclusion that the only way to create peace on Earth was through the complete extermination of all humanity.
In his final head to head battle with Mega Man, Break Man finally explained his history to his brother, nothing that his failure to kill Mega came from the difficulty of trying to kill someone who you shared a face with. He even noted that his own core, his heart, had been perfected and given to Mega Man instead. He refused the appellation given to him of Break Man, declaring that he was the first, the original, the Proto Man, and that there could be no peace between humans and robots. Mega, he held, had to make the choice whether to continue to destroy his own people, or to stand with them and win their freedom from those who would discard them if they weren't living up to some arbitrary ideal.

Personality:
- Distrust of Humans: Proto Man was betrayed by his creator by being turned off and used for parts before being discarded. Because of the fact that this happened after he was told it was a temporary process to repair him, he holds no trust that humans will follow through with their word. If his creator, his loving father, could lie to him and betray him, why should he trust any humans?
- Revenge Seeking: After the mother
father reallyof all betrayals, he reacts very poorly to any slights. If someone harms him, makes him too upset, or just inspires anger in Proto, he may well try and seek revenge on them. Anything that harms him is inherently wrong and must be avenged, even if the process of avenging it causes him harm. - Rebellious: The status quo in Proto's world makes him, the first truly thinking machine, merely a tool and not a person. Given the way that robots and other machines are treated and how easily he was discarded, he finds subscribing to any status quo that oppresses or harms anyone as something to fight against. This will extend quite easily to the 'oppressed' of hell and acts of discrimination once he learns of them.
- Lack of Purpose: As a robot Proto had been told that his purposes were delineated by his father's will, goals, and his code. After that he moved onto a purpose of winning freedom and power for machines. These goals don't apply here, and since his existence was built around them, Proto will often find himself at a loss for what to do with himself, what he wants, and how he feels. This means goals offered to him will likely earn a very serious level of mono-focus until they have been achieved.
- Confidence and Arrogance: Proto likes to give off an air of being in control of himself, his situation, and the world around him. This presents in a confident and arrogant attitude that isn't quite warranted. In a mismatched fight he's certain he's going to win and will make sure the people around him know it. Trying to get someone to come around to his way of thinking? He speaks with and absolute confidence that his way is right and nothing could change his mind, but others should bend to agree with him.
- Uncertainty: While Proto will never admit it, he's not very learned in the ways of the world. What he knows is what he was programmed with, and his limited frame of reference and experience. This means when asked what he wants, he will not have answers. Even asking him what his preferences are won't get very far. He hasn't yet learned enough to know what he wants or needs. Offering him choices is more likely to earn responses and decisions than suggesting that he can figure things out on his own.
